While the flowers and leaves of the borage plant have been been revered since Roman times for their mood enhancing qualities, recent research has suggested that the the oil pressed from borage seed may help skin conditions, heart health and rheumatic conditions
History
Although the seeds of the borage plant have only recently gained attention owing to the interest in the healing properties of GLA, borage leaves and flowers have long been used for traditional healing. Both the Greek physician Dioscorides and the Roman naturalist Pliny regarded borage as an antidepressant, calling it an herb that bestowed “cheer” and made people “joyful” and “merry.” In addition to its use as a mood enhancer, borage leaves and flowers were also used for curbing fevers and supporting kidney health.
