How is Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil processed?

Fresh coconut when first crushed is a delicate pink color—not the white you might expect. The oil is filtered using earthen clays to naturally bleach out the pink hue. Pressing can generate heat beyond 180 degrees for 5 minutes or longer. Crude coconut oil needs to have its natural enzymes pasteurized and is heated to neutralize them. Otherwise, the oil will rapidly deteriorate.

 

How should I use Spectrum Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil for my skin?

The easiest and quickest way is run your hand across the solidified oil several times and then rub on your skin! There is no need to liquefy, as a little goes a long way. Another option, especially if you'll be using the oil for massage, is to place the tub in a pan of warm water to liquefy. Once liquefied, dip hand into tub and then massage directly into skin.

 

What about using Spectrum Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil for my hair?

Place tub in pan of warm water to liquefy. Apply to wet hair. Let stand for one hour, then wash thoroughly with very warm water and a non-moisturizing shampoo. Repeated washings may be required to remove oil and leave hair feeling smooth and silky.

 

Is Spectrum Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil solid or liquid?

At ambient to cold temperatures, coconut oil is solid. However at temperatures over 72 degrees, it will liquefy so be sure to open with care during hot summer months.

Yes, but we market it as a hair and body oil and it is specifically packaged in a convenient, unbreakable plastic tub for that reason. Nevertheless the oil and the HDPE #2 plastic are both food grade.
