Do your plastic bottles leach unhealthy substances into the oil? Do your plastic bottles leach unhealthy substances into the oil?
No. Over the last 40 years, plastics have evolved into the preferred packing medium for vegetable oils. Plastics are so chemically neutral that they resist leaching polymers into the oil. A great deal of the negative perception of PET plastics is based on older data that does not reflect the tremendous effort by responsible packing firms to create safe, fully recyclable plastic packaging products.
A new class of plastics called the PET series with sub categories of Pet-E and Pet-G provide superior finish, sanitary compliance and prevent transmission of out gassing from some foodstuffs. These plastics are particularly suited for vegetable oils and EFA oils in particular due to their inherent inertness in the presence of fatty acid oils. Past tests on plastics have shown them to be very stable with no indication of oil leeching or absorption from the plastic bottle. We are now using PETE plastic for our flax oil and other nutritional oils.
